What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Kurty Durty hailing from Bakersfield, California.

What is unique about you and your music?

My music is original, I speak my truth in my perspective. Some may understand it and some may not, everything I write is wrote with passion.

What shaped your music?

All my hardships and dealing with the stress of life. Everything from family deaths to nearly dying myself. Watching my best friend and father die and not having the ability to save them. It plays a toll on my music and how I create.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

After hitting the stage for Ice Cube in 2008. He had just dropped "Gangster Rap Made Me Do It." After being the opening act @ the Fox Theatre in Bakersfield. I knew that I had the ability to take it to the next level.

What type of music do you listen to?

I love old school music, The Temptations, Johnnie Taylor, The Isley's, Bobby Womack, ect. If we are speaking about Hip Hop I still listen to the artist I grew up on such as Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, E-40, Too Shor, C-Bo, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre. I like a few of the new artist as well.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

Myself. Hahahaha, I feel that my music is unique. I wouldn't call myself undervalued though, just not as popular as the rest. Working on that.

How do you prepare for your performances?

Typically, I'm reciting my lyrics over and over. I try to get back in the same mind state I was in when I recorded the song. the fans want to hear how you feel.

What ignites your (song) writing flow?

Anything could spark an idea for a song. The song Phatty was created while jogging around the neighborhood. ha, I think I passed up a woman with a Phatty. Next thing I know, I hear this dope a** beat and boom! Hit record.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

Read Poetry, I love to read how others express themselves. I also like to decipher the meanings of things. We all view life differently, I like to figure out what possibly influenced this writing.

Success to you is…

having the ability to take care of your family for the rest of their life. We all are successful at something. Rather it be, playing basketball or running track. I know a lot of people think money makes you successful and that is incorrect. Money comes with success, it doesn't make you successful.

What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help artists starting out?

Learn the business. A lot of MC's are just overzealous about being an artist that they get robbed. yes, being in front of the cameras are cool and having attention is cool also, but what about behind the scenes. behind the schemes is what matters the most, because after the smoke and mirrors what's left is what's important.

Any upcoming projects?

I'm currently working on my new album. That should be available this year. Not trying to Rush the project, I prefer quality over quantity.

Where do we find you music / music project?

You can get updates @ website www.kurtydurtymusic.com or just search Kurty Durty on any social media outlet. My name is unique so I'm not hard to find.

I was heated, as soon as I got home I just let loose on Kanye West's "Selfish" instrumental. That song was me telling my Ex straight up your gonna regret moving like that later! The title comes from a lyric in the song "You f***** wit a small n****,…See More
